When I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in December 2022, my dear friend, Sharon O’Kelley immediately wanted to do a fundraiser for me. Fortunately, I am employed and have insurance so I declined her kind offer. Through my treatments and speaking to nurses and patients who shared the waiting room with me over time, it affected me so much to know that so many people are unable to get the care they need because they either don’t have insurance or the insurance doesn’t cover enough. No one should have to choose between their health or putting food on the table for their family. Even if it’s a drop in the bucket, please help me help those in need to focus on getting their health back without having to worry about the next rent or mortgage payment, enough food in the fridge, childcare and more.
